Three Tips to Improve Gas Mileage

Gas prices can often be one of the biggest pain points for many car owners during the summer months. The conundrum of wanting to be out and about but also wanting to avoid paying top dollar at the gas pump can be a hard situation to navigate. Thankfully, we at Patrick Cadillac understand the struggle and have created a list of our top three tips to improve gas mileage this summer.
- Use cruise control
- Cruise control is the simplest and easiest way to save on gas this summer and improve your vehicle’s fuel economy. By using cruise control you eliminate the need to excessively accelerate and allow your car to do the work for you by setting a speed for it to follow. In newer models, adaptive cruise control is an added benefit which included automatic braking and more dynamic set-speed controls.
- Avoid excessive acceleration
- Any time you are rapidly accelerating you’re wasting gas and losing fuel efficiency. Aggressive driving in any manner hurts your vehicle’s fuel economy. It’s best to engage in safe driving practices and moderate speed increases when driving.
- Limit excessive idling
- Engine idling is another hidden culprit of bad fuel economy. The practice of leaving your vehicle on while parked can end up using about a quarter to a half gallon of gas per hour depending on a variety of factors. It’s best to limit engine starts to about 10 times per day on average and to turn off your engine when your vehicle is parked.
These three tips will allow for your vehicle to become more fuel efficient and will keep you on the road enjoying your summer. If you’re in the market for something new with improved fuel economy over your current vehicle, we at Patrick Cadillac have a wide selection of inventory for you to look through.
